This auction is for an antique Chinese porcelain garlic neck vase decorated in relief with a Dragon and Phoenix in clouds, over ocean waves.
Interesting features include the Dragon's eyes which are mounted on extendable shafts.
Qianlong mark on the base - in our view probably 19th Century, however I've never seen another like it, so it could be earlier.
About 7 1/4" tall.
Collected in the early 1900's by an employee on the Canadian Pacific Steamship Empress of China which sailed between Asia and the West Coast of North America 1891-1911 ( She was wrecked on a reef at Tokyo Bay in 1911) .
This is the only one like it I've seen - it could be from the Qianlong period, however I'm going to say 19th Century to be safe.
Condition as shown. No cracks or repairs, with minor losses here and there to some of the raised edges (see pictures).
The piece of paper shown it the pictures has been rolled up and stored in the vase for as long as I've known it.
Canadian buyers must pay appropriate sales tax.
