An evening with the legendary Sten Sjostrand, courtesy ofthe host professor Dr.Tan Ta Sen…………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Dr.Tan said,”Why don’t you put up Sten Sjostrand , as myguest, in Hotel Puri where we can meet and talk.!”

A week later, on the 31 ST of May 2017 at1.40p.m. a Swedish Volvo car(Sten is Swedish too) pulled up into Hotel Puri’scar park and was greeted by Tony Ren.

“Hi, Tony-great to see you again!” greeted Sten Sjjostrandback.

“How did you find your way to Hotel Puri?” enthused Tony.

“I know Melaka(old name Malacca) quite well as I havefrequented the historical town in the past”.

After checking in, Sten Sjostrand was shown and explainedaround the hotel (which is like a sort of museum in itself by virtue of itsperiod building which houses many historical artefacts, especially Ming pieces)by the in-house tour guide.

“Wow!..there are some very nice Ming pieces in this hotelgallery!” exclaimed Sten.

“Yes,I agree with you Mr.Sten,” replied the tour guide, whoobviously have been “warned” about the visit by the legendary treasure hunterturned Ming ceramics expert.

Ten minutes elapsed, at 200p.m., Dr Tan came up, said hello,and ushered us into the hotel restaurant for a tea chat.

“Very nice of you to visit and stay in my hotel, Sten.”Dr.Tanbegan the conversation at the same time nodding to Tony Ren for setting up themeeting.

Sten gratefully replied, ”I never thought your hotel is sobig inside with so many historical memories and artefacts. the ambience isexcellent.”

“Then you must visit again and recommend to your friends!” aproud Dr.Tan responded, adding, ”The Malaysian ex-Deputy Prime Minister TunMusa Hitam was here with some friends last week.”

“Will do,” and changing the subject Sten asked,”Tony told mesomething about the 300 over shipwrecks in Indonesian waters that youmentioned?”

“Yes, and I know how you feel about doing salvaging in Indonesiabut these potential salvage sites have the blessing and protection of thebrother of the present Indonesian President.”

An aside: Of course its not necessary for us to go intodetail but suffice to say that if there are three well-known “movers andshakers” sitting together and discussing things….its got to be interesting,exciting and even sensational(as some conversations are classified-meaning wewill keep some of the behind –the-scenes stories censored)

At 4.30 p.m., after Sten excused himself and made entreatyto go to his room for a rest(as he was just discharged from the hospital andrecuperating from a  punctured lung),Dr.Tan suggested dinner at 7.00p.m.

Dinner time wasn’t as adrenalin-charged as the afternoonchat. For one thing , we have the addition of the demure Mrs.Sjostrand and theeloquent Mrs.Tan to create a more jovial atmosphere (read with more laughs) andto complement the male conversation(read if you consider how macho a real life IndianaJones is, you will appreciate Sten Sjostrand)

So there you are –Tony Ren had a wonderful evening with two pre-eminentfriends, namely, Dr.Tan Ta Sen who is President of OBOR Pte. Ltd., InternationalZheng He society, Cheng Ho museums in Melaka and Singapore…and Sten Sjostrand,the legendary marine architect –cum-marine archaeologist.

P/s…Tony Ren brought along eight pieces of early Qing blueand white porcelain and some teapots to show Sten and Dr.Tan, of whom theformer is a post-Song porcelain expert and the latter an avid post-Songporcelain collector.

Dr.Tan wants to learn about old Zishahu from Tony Ren andSten Sjostrand recognizes Tony Ren as a Pre-Daoguang Zisha hu expert vis-à-visauthentication and exact dating.

All said and done, it is Tony Ren who made the meetinghappened….for without Tony Ren, the middle man, these two great men would nothave met.

一个晚上的约会，与传奇人物史丹·卓斯特朗（StenSjostrand）的晚会，很感谢主人郑和博物馆陈达生博士讲话...........

陈博士说：“你为什么不让史丹·卓斯特朗（StenSjostrand）住在我的HotelPuri酒店，我们可以在那里见面聊天。

一个星期后，在2017年5月31日在下午13：40分钟，瑞典的沃尔沃汽车（Sten也是瑞典人）开到了HotelPuri酒店的停车场，并被任汤尼迎接。

“嗨，汤尼，很高兴再次见到你！”StenSjjostrand回答。

“你怎样找到去puri酒店的？容易吗？”汤尼说。

“我知道马六甲（旧名字马六甲）很好，因为我以前经常来的历史城镇”。

入住后，StenSjostrand被酒店内部导游围绕酒店显示和解释了一圈（这个宾馆类似博物馆，是一个很老的房子，本身就是一座拥有许多历史文物，特别是明代的建筑）。

“哇！在这家酒店画廊里有一些非常好的明代的瓷片！”史丹先生惊呼道。

“是的，我同意先生的说话，”导游回答说，因为老板有提醒他这位是一个传奇猎人找国宝的瓷器专家。

十分钟过去了，在二点半，陈博士来了，问你好，带我们进入酒店的餐厅聊天。

“很高兴你来参观我的酒店，史丹。”陈博士面带笑容的开始谈话，同时感谢点头Tony策划安排会面。

史丹先生感激地回答说：“我从来没有想过你的酒店是如此之大，里面有许多历史记忆和文物。环境氛围很好！”

陈博士回应道：“这样讲你下次还会来的，介绍给你的朋友。另外上一周马来西亚前副总理穆萨TunMusa Hitam与一些朋友一起来这里住。”

“会的”，改变主题史丹问道，“汤尼告诉我关于你提到的印度尼西亚海域的300多艘沉船？”

“是的，我知道你不喜欢打捞在印尼，因为很危险，但这些潜在的救助场所对现任印度尼西亚总统的兄弟的祝福来保护，剩余的故事就不谈了，先放在一边。”

下午四点三十分，对不起史丹先生讲要到房间休息一会儿（因为她刚从医院出来肺部还没恢复），陈博士建议晚餐在7.00p.m。

晚餐时间不像下午聊天一样一样紧张讲话。因为一方面，我们增加了Mrs.Sjostrand夫人和Mrs.Tan夫人，以创造一个更新鲜的气氛（更多的笑声），并补充男性的谈话。

给任汤尼与这两位有名做大事的人物是一个美好的夜晚和经验，他不会忘记。即国际郑和商会会长及马六甲正和博物馆馆长陈达生博士，以及南海打捞有限公司海洋建筑师及海洋考古学家史丹.卓斯特朗。

P / s ： 任汤尼带来了八个早清蓝白瓷和一些茶壶，展示给Sten和Dr.Tan，其中Sten是宋朝以后瓷器专家，后者是宋代陶瓷收藏家。

陈博士想跟着任汤尼学习清早期老紫砂壶，史丹先生认为任汤尼是前道光以前紫砂壶专家，鉴定认证和确切年代。

这两个大人物的会面，很感谢任汤尼的细心安排，要不然都见不到。
